Plunge Pools

A plunge pool is a compact, deep pool designed for relaxation, cooling off, and year-round enjoyment – without the space, cost, or complexity of a traditional swimming pool. Typically ranging from 2.2m to 6m in length, plunge pools fit comfortably into small backyards, courtyard spaces, and sloping blocks where a full-size pool simply isn’t practical.

Unlike a spa, a plunge pool uses fresh or mineral water and is maintained like a regular pool. Unlike concrete pools, Outback plunge pools are manufactured in Australia from 316 marine grade stainless steel or COLORBOND® steel, arrive fully pre-plumbed, and can be placed above ground or in-ground, with no excavation required for above-ground pools.

Entry-level pricing starts from $14,390, making them one of the most cost-effective ways to add a pool to your property.

Plunge Pool FAQs

Above-ground Outback plunge pools can be placed and ready to swim in as little as one day – no excavation, no concrete, no lengthy construction timeline. In-ground installations typically take 2–5 days depending on site conditions, access, and any landscaping work. Compared to a traditional concrete pool which can take 3–6 months from approval to completion, a prefabricated plunge pool is a dramatically faster path to having a pool in your backyard.
Outback plunge pools start from $14,390 for the OB Lite and from $19,140 for the OB Classic (based on a 3.2m wide, 1.30m high pool with bench). Pricing varies by size, colour, and configuration. Full pricing and options are available on each product page.
The OB Classic offers 7 widths (2.2m–3.4m), 3 heights, 11 external colours, 6 internal colours, and can be installed above ground, in-ground, or on a sloping block, backed by a 15-year structural warranty.
The OB Lite is an above-ground-only model available in 3 widths (2.4m–3.2m), 1 height, and 3 internal colours, with a 10-year structural warranty – starting from $14,390.

Yes. Both the OB Classic and OB Lite can be installed above ground with no excavation required. The OB Lite is designed exclusively for above-ground installation, making it ideal for rental properties, sloping sites, or situations where digging isn’t possible. Above-ground installation significantly reduces both installation time and overall cost.

Yes. All Outback plunge pools are manufactured in Australia using 316 marine grade stainless steel or COLORBOND® steel with AQUAPLATE® internal coating. Every pool arrives pre-plumbed and ready to install, backed by a 10–15 year structural warranty depending on the model.

Sizes & Dimensions

The OB Classic is available in 7 widths from 2.2m to 3.4m, across 3 heights (1.08m, 1.30m, and 1.52m). The OB Lite comes in 3 widths from 2.4m to 3.2m at a fixed 1.30m height. View all sizes and configurations →

Our smallest pool, the OB Classic at 2.2m wide, can fit in a courtyard or narrow side access as small as 2.5m wide. Above-ground models require no excavation, so the footprint is just the pool itself.

The OB Lite starts at 2.4m wide, compact enough for most suburban backyards and tight urban blocks, and designed for above-ground installation with no digging required. See OB Lite pricing →

Materials & Construction

The shell is manufactured from either 316 marine grade stainless steel or COLORBOND® steel with AQUAPLATE® internal coating, both engineered for Australian conditions. The interior is lined with a premium Aqualux vinyl liner for chemical resistance and longevity. Read about the benefits of vinyl liner →

Concrete pools are poured on-site and take months to install, with no flexibility to relocate. Stainless steel plunge pools are prefabricated, installed in days, and can be positioned above ground or in-ground. For most Australian backyards, steel offers better value, faster installation, and equal longevity. Full stainless steel pool guide →

316 marine grade stainless contains molybdenum, making it significantly more resistant to corrosion from pool chemicals, salt air, and coastal environments. Outback uses 316L exclusively, the same grade used in marine and medical applications. Why we use 316 stainless →

Vinyl liners are chemical-resistant, non-porous, and far cheaper to replace than retiling. Aqualux liners carry an 18-year pro-rata warranty (with Cruise or Smart equipment) and come in 6 colour options for the OB Classic. Benefits of a vinyl lined pool →

Installation & Council

Outback pools can be installed above ground, in-ground, or on a sloping site (OB Classic only). Above-ground requires no excavation and can be swim-ready in a single day. In-ground installations typically take 2–5 days. Full installation guide →

Requirements vary by state and council. In most cases, above-ground pools under a certain volume are exempt, while in-ground pools require a permit and fencing compliance. See our installation guide for state-by-state detail →

Yes, the OB Classic is specifically designed to handle sloping sites with a cut-and-fill or above-ground-on-one-side approach. This makes it one of the most versatile options for hilly or uneven terrain. Learn more about installation options →

Heating, Running Costs & Maintenance

Yes. The OB Lite includes an Aquahub with a bonus heat pump. The OB Classic is compatible with heat pump upgrades through the Cruise or Smart equipment packages. Most customers swim comfortably through winter with the heat pump running. View equipment packages →

Running costs depend on your equipment package, local electricity rates, and how often you heat the water. A well-insulated plunge pool with a heat pump and energy-efficient pump typically costs $30–$80/month to run. Explore equipment options →

Maintenance is similar to a standard pool, regular chemical checks, filter cleaning, and skimmer emptying. The smaller water volume actually makes maintenance simpler and cheaper than a full-size pool. Start-up & maintenance guide →

Pricing & Finance

All pools include the steel shell, vinyl liner, HeatLock insulation, PVC fittings, skimmer, and either a Base Kit (OB Classic) or Aquahub (OB Lite). Delivery and installation are additional, pricing varies by location. Full pricing breakdown →

Yes, Outback offers finance options through Handypay, with flexible repayment terms. A $19,140 pool can be spread over 3–7 years depending on your chosen plan. Finance options →
